Small volumes. Distinctive expressions of Montagu.

Montagu Winery may be one of the larger cellars in the Klein Karoo, but the wines that carry our own name are made on a deliberately boutique scale.

Our Portfolio

Different vineyards. Different styles. One unmistakably Montagu range.

Rather than bottling large volumes, our winemaking team selects vineyards and individual parcels that best demonstrate the quality, character and diversity available to us in each vintage.

The result is a focused collection of wines shaped by the many different soils, elevations and microclimates surrounding Montagu.

Some are fresh and uncomplicated. Others are more serious, site-driven expressions. And some, like our Muscadels, continue a winemaking tradition that has been part of the Montagu Winery story for generations.

Mont Massif

Some wines begin with a plan. Others begin with a vineyard that refuses to be overlooked.

The Cabernet Sauvignon vineyard behind Mont Massif was once earmarked for removal by its grower. The quality of the fruit, however, told a very different story.
Its potential was recognised by the winemaking team and the vineyard was given another purpose: to produce one of Montagu Winery's flagship wines. Today, Mont Massif represents the more focused, vineyard-driven side of our portfolio - and a reminder that sometimes the most interesting wines begin by paying closer attention to what the vineyard is trying to say.

Mont Massif Cabernet Sauvignon

The nose reveals bright red fruit with subtle notes of vanilla, followed by a generous palate of ripe red berries and cherries. Fine structure and gentle oak-derived nuttiness add depth and sophistication, leading to a smooth, lingering finish.

Some have become long-standing favourites. Others give our winemakers the opportunity to explore individual vineyards, varieties and styles in greater depth.

Muscadel Range

Few varieties are as closely associated with Montagu Winery as Muscat.

Our relationship with these grapes stretches back through generations of growers and winemakers, and traditional sweet wine remains an important part of our identity today. Yet Muscat in Montagu is far from one-dimensional.

Vineyards grow across different soils, elevations and microclimates, producing fruit with distinct flavour profiles from one site to another.
Rather than relying automatically on the same vineyard blocks each year, our winemakers assess the available fruit throughout the season and select the parcels best suited to the wines we want to bottle.

It means tradition remains at the heart of these wines without preventing us from responding to what each new vintage brings.
