The capacity to think big. The freedom to focus small.
Montagu Winery occupies an unusual position within the South African wine landscape.
Scale & Precision
Big Enough to Deliver. Small Enough to Care About the Details.
We are a significant producer with the capacity to process grapes and make wine on a large scale, while at the same time producing our own range of carefully selected boutique wines.
It means our winemakers work across two worlds - handling substantial commercial volumes while identifying small parcels that deserve individual attention.
That combination of scale, experience and vineyard diversity gives us tremendous freedom in the cellar.

Litres Annual Wine Production
White varieties account for the majority of our production, reflecting both the climate of the region and the varieties that thrive here.
The greater part of our production supplies the broader South African wine industry, where Montagu wine forms part of the portfolios of some of the country's established wine businesses and brands.
Our own bottled wines represent a much smaller part of what we make - and that is precisely what makes them special.
Only selected vineyards, blocks and parcels make their way into a bottle bearing the Montagu Winery name.

A Small Cellar Within a Large One
Within the larger winery is a dedicated small-batch winemaking facility.
Here, selected parcels destined for our bottled range can receive the individual attention they deserve.
It allows our winemakers to work more precisely with special vineyard blocks, experiment with different techniques and create wines that express the individuality of a particular site or vintage.
Our Concentrate Plant
Montagu Winery has produced grape concentrate since specialised equipment was first installed at the cellar in 1970.
The process takes place under vacuum, allowing water to be removed from fresh grape juice at comparatively low temperatures.
What remains is a naturally concentrated grape product that can be used within the wine industry.
It is one of the specialised capabilities that sets the Montagu cellar apart.
Responsibility to the Land
The vineyards supplying Montagu Winery stretch across farms surrounded by some of the Klein Karoo's most beautiful natural landscapes.
Large areas of natural vegetation remain untouched on member farms, providing habitat for the wildlife that continues to share this environment with us.
Our approach to grape growing is based on quality, responsible farming and respect for the land that sustains our growers.
Montagu Winery participates in recognised wine industry programmes including IPW and WIETA.
Generations of Trust
A long-term approach to people, place and business.
For us, doing business well means more than producing good wine.
It means maintaining ethical business practices, supporting the communities around us and building relationships that last.
Many of our members come from farming families that have been part of the Montagu story for generations.
That creates a long-term way of thinking.
"We are here to grow something worth passing on."
